Dye sublimation makes it possible to customize almost any item for promotional campaigns
Mugs, license plates and for almost any other popular hard surface items that need printing, Dye Sublimation could be your answer!
What is Dye Sublimation Printing?
Dye sublimation is a method of applying an image to specially coated ceramics, metals and polyester fabric using three main elements: sublimation ink, heat, and pressure.
Sublimation ink is unique in its ability to convert from a solid to a gas without going through a liquid form. The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled with pressure and time. Hard items such as ceramic, fiberboard, metals, etc. require a special coating to accept the sublimation inks. The mugs, tiles, metals, etc. already comes with this coating. We carry a full line of these sublimatable blanks.
The heat transfer papers for sublimation printing do not have a coating on them. This paper has a unique finish on the surface so the inks do not soak into the paper. After you print the transfer paper, it is then placed on the product to be applied with a heat press.
The result of the sublimation process is a nearly permanent, high-resolution, full-color print. Because the dyes are infused into the substrate at the molecular level, rather than applied at a topical level (such as with screen printing and direct to garment printing), the prints will not crack, fade or peel from the substrate under normal conditions.
What types of products can be decorated?
This process is one of the most versatile technologies available to the product decorator today, sublimation allows for the creation of thousands of full-color, true photo quality products in numerous markets such as apparel, gifts, awards, and recognition, as well as promotional products: mugs, mouse pads, flags, puzzles, tile murals unsub, vapor shirts, and much more. The apparel side offers variety and option for the decorator from trendy hooded sweatshirts to engineered, microfibers.
Dye-sublimation printing works with polyester and polymer-coated substrates. However, hard items including ceramics and metals require a special coating to accept the sublimation inks. On the other hand, you do not need any coating on 100% polyester items such as mouse mats and 100% polyester fabric.
